Bio

Since the beginning, Derreq Player has been surrounded by cameras. Growing up and currently living in Maryland, he was consumed by the interest of how they worked and eventually what could be done with them. Player fell in love with photography and started his self-taught journey in 2015. While at Bowie State University, he studied Visual Communication & Digital Media Arts (VCDMA) with a concentration in Digital Media. This exposed him to a countless number of paths to take in life and with his art. Through the guidance of his associates, professors, and mentor, Ryan Pelham, along with a DIY viewpoint on life, the passion for portrait and product photography became clear.

He’s received the Photographer of the Year Award for the 2018-2019 academic school year and has published work featured on BSU’s athletic page. Currently, he works at BSU's Relations & Marketing department as a student photographer as well as serving as the photographer and social media coordinator for the Track & Field / Cross Country team. He plans to learn as much as he can throughout his journey in the art world to apply to his own business and future goals of opening a studio & equipment rental space for all creatives to come together and let their imaginations run wild as they were meant to.
